Write or write text as well as revision of scientific papers – diploma thesis, master thesis etc.
Service to the reader
What you write is not intended for you, but for a reader; otherwise you would write poetry. Put yourself in the reader. What would you like, what would you like to read? Maybe something like this (Kant, Introduction to the Metaphysics of Morals):
But whether this might in itself be an object unworthy of consideration, to ask: whether pure philosophy in all its parts does not require its particular man, and if it were not better for the whole of the learned industry, then the empirical mixed with the rational, in accordance with the taste of the public, for all sorts of circumstances unknown to them, and used to sell, which self-thinkers, others who prepare the merely rational part, call brooding, were warned not to do two business at the same time. those who are very different in the way of treating them, to whom each one may perhaps be required to have a special talent, and whose connection in one person produces only bunglers, I only ask here if the nature of science requires it; At any time carefully separate the empirical from the rational part, and before the actual (empirical) physics a metaphysics of nature, before the but to preface practical anthropology with a metaphysics of morals which had to be thoroughly purged of all empirical knowledge in order to know how much pure reason can afford in both cases, and from which sources it draws its a priori instruction, by the way Doing business by all moral teachers (whose name is called Legion), or only by some who feel profession to be driven.
Everything understood at first reading? Congratulations on your ability to concentrate.
Please keep in mind when writing your thesis:
- Excessive use of specialized vocabulary is not a feature of scientificity.
- Box sets are not a feature of scientificity
- 10 levels of structure are not a feature of scientificity.
- An abstract, non-descriptive language is not a feature of scientificity.
- Paragraphs that go over two pages, and paragraphs that consist of only one sentence, also testify to bad style.
- Excessive citations are not a feature of science.
- Footnotes are not intended for continuous text, but for references.
The magic word for good text is simplicity. Imagine, not your professor will read your work, but a child, to whom you must explain your complex trains of thought easily understandable.
Make it easy for your readers to record the text. And offer him a diet that makes him hungry for more.
Outline of the actual text
The structure is the O of a successful scientific work (do you still know what the A is?). Each outline point you create is a vessel that gradually fills you with stitches, then whole thoughts in the form of sentences and paragraphs.
Of course, you should spend a lot of time on the structure of your diploma thesis or master’s thesis before you even start writing: you can, of course, improve it again and again, but with a very well thought-out structure at the beginning of the writing process, this will not be necessary.
To design your outline, you can brainstorm after brainstorming a topic for your work. Write down everything that should be in your work, write down as much as you can think of. If that helps you, you can also use software like the open source program Freemind. What does it take to examine everything in your work? What should be addressed in any case? How much should be mentioned from every aspect? What can not and should not everything be said?
Sort, create a concrete hierarchy of your thoughts. For now, they can be divided into many levels. The lowest level is then the bullet points that you make to each section.
They will be structured directly in your Word document. Specifically, this means: Write the headlines of the main chapters on a new page and mark them with the style “Heading 1” (see also here). Below that you write preliminary second level headings that are labeled “Overrun 2”. A third level is still allowed, it is awarded “Heading 3”. All other subdivisions are only your personal thoughts. Of course, there are also the bullet points for each chapter.
The headings are usually numbered in scientific papers as follows:
- 1 Literature research and literature acquisition. Or: studying means copying
- 1.1 Snowball system
- 1.2 Internet sources
- 1.3 monographs, anthologies
- 1.3.1 Bibliotheques, association catalogs
- 1.3.2 Google Book Search
- 1.4 Unpublished works
- 2 Bibliography
If you create an appropriate structure in your Word document before actually writing it, you can very effectively fill the outline points with content. In addition, you can display the outline view on the left edge of the screen. So you can easily jump back and forth between the different parts of your document.
Forget the fixed idea of wanting to be linear. You can also write the first sentence last. A too linear approach will block you and hinder you.
